The 26th Weifang International Kite Festival is a brand-new
competitive event with more distinctive features than
ever before. There will be new-style kites, super-big
kites and characteristic kites brought here by
competitors from all over the world which spectators
have never ever seen. The team from Finland will bring
60 kites to the festival which include a big Cow Kite
(the same size as a real cow!), marionettes kites that
can dance to Chinese opera or jazz, etc. Chinese Taipei
Team will carry with them Tiger Kites and Beauty Kites.
Other kites details are yet to be sent by the
contestants.
Affected by the wide spread financial crisis this year, our
invitation has been once confronted with tremendous
obstacles. In the face of such situation, we take
advantage of many channels (telephone, email, fax, etc.)
to contact potential comers. Till now, 20 countries and
regions have registered in various competitive events,
which is more than what we have expected. As to the
registration at home, 14 provinces and regions,(nearly
100 contestants) have registered in our competitions.
The 5th World Kite Championship will invite world-level sport
kite teams. At present 14 teams have registered in the
great event. As it is an international competition, we
have invited international judges, such as the major
judges Steve from Australia and Hans from Netherland. We
will invite as well judges that the Sports Ministry of
China have nominated, which ensures the competition
just, fair and open.
To ensure that the event is of world standard and full of
competitiveness, this year we will use the regulations
of the 5th world kite championship newly revised by
Sports Ministry of China.
Besides, as there will be much more kites but fewer
competitors than the previous years, we will allocate
more volunteers to help the competitors with their
kite-flying so that all the competitions could be
carried out smoothly.
